Сажетак

The twentieth century, as the century of the greatest achievements, enabled us to see the world, which forever changed the destiny of modern man. The mediators in this regard are the mass media, which have made culture no longer reserved only for higher strata of society. Culture has thus become easily accessible and intended for everyone without exception. Given that television is still the most influential electronic media in terms of influencing public opinion, it is therefore of great importance for the presentation of culture news. By reporting on culture, television encourages the creation of cultural patterns of citizens, and preserves national culture and tradition. On the other hand, commercial television stations in Serbia and around the world have replaced culture and art with reality shows and other formats of entertainment. However, public broadcasters have a professional responsibility and legal obligation to report on topics of public interest, including topics related to culture and the arts. In this way, the media meet the communication needs of citizens, which are reflected in the three basic roles of public services: information, education and entertainment. For the purposes of this paper, we will conduct a quantitative-qualitative analysis of the content of the Cultural News Program of the Radio Television of Serbia in May 2021. The aim of this paper is to determine whether and to what extent the Cultural News reports on different types of art, artists, their works and cultural policy of Serbia, as well as whether it fulfills the educational function of journalism, which is considered basic.
